The Dog Form is based in Forest Hill, in the middle of Harford County, with Bel Air down the road and Baltimore to the south. It works out from there, across four jurisdictions and the towns between them.
Most of what makes a portrait good has nothing to do with where it is made. It has to do with giving a dog long enough to stop performing. That is true in a rowhouse in Fells Point, in a Bel Air back garden, and in a field outside Jarrettsville, and it is why the location is chosen for the dog rather than for the photograph.
Two settings cover nearly every session: your home, for a dog who is anxious, elderly, or only fully himself on his own rug; and open ground, for a dog who needs room before he will settle. The dark, controlled portrait with nothing in the frame but your dog is made either way, because the backdrop and the lights travel. Which one suits is decided in the consultation, before anything is booked, and it can still change on the day if your dog says so.
Further out is not a no. If you are outside the area and we can settle on somewhere to meet, the session happens the same way it would anywhere else. Say where you are when you write and we will work it out.
Eight towns carry most of the calendar, and the communities around them are an easy drive. The setting changes; the way a session is run does not.
Environmental and in-home portraits for Bel Air families, a few miles from home base. Bel Air has the mix this work suits: older homes with deep shade, newer developments with small fenced yards, and plenty of ground in between. A session can start at first light without anyone making a drive in the dark.
Home base. The Dog Form works out of Forest Hill, in the middle of Harford County. Scheduling is easier here, in-home sessions are simple to arrange, and a short drive leaves more of the day for your dog.
Jarrettsville and the northern end of the county. Farm ground, long fence lines, and the kind of evening light that does not need help. A dog who needs room before he will settle gets it here without anyone leaving the county.
Fallston sits between Forest Hill and the Baltimore County line, which makes it one of the easiest bookings on the calendar. Wooded lots and quiet cul-de-sacs give an environmental session room to breathe without a drive into traffic.
Quiet, low-key portraits made for Towson and Timonium interiors. Scale, palette, and placement are settled at the start, so a finished piece is sized for the wall it is going on rather than trimmed to fit afterwards. The black-and-gold style sits well in a neutral room.

Havre de Grace and Perryville sit where the Susquehanna meets the bay. Water, long sight lines, and low evening light make this some of the best environmental ground in the region, and it is a short run up the highway.
Aberdeen, Churchville, and the eastern side of the county. Farm ground and long open fields give a portrait a sense of scale that a fenced yard cannot, and in-home sessions here are straightforward to schedule.

Forest Hill, Bel Air, Jarrettsville, Fallston, Hickory, Abingdon, Aberdeen, Havre de Grace, Churchville, and Joppa. This is home ground. Home base is here, the light is familiar, and it is the easiest part of the region to get on the calendar.
Towson, Timonium, Hunt Valley, White Marsh, Perry Hall, and the rest of Baltimore County. Bookings here are in-home or on location, and a dark, controlled portrait is lit on site when that is the picture you want.
Baltimore City is its own jurisdiction, not part of the county, and city sessions are planned differently: load-in, parking, and permitted green space all get settled before the day rather than on it.
Elkton, North East, Perryville, and Chesapeake City. Cecil County sits just across the Susquehanna, so a session here rarely needs much planning around the drive.
Wherever your dog is most at ease, that is where the portrait begins.
